ANGUS SUPREME AT DUBBO (16-Mar-10)
A 735 kg 13 months old Angus bull exhibited by Chris and Bronwyn Halliday of J&C Angus, Wildes Meadow, NSW, was supreme champion interbreed bull in a field of over 700 head at the NSW Beef Spectacular at Dubbo, NSW. Three of the four interbreed judges named the Angus bull as their top pick from the 27 grand champion on parade with the fourth judge placing him second.
Most successful Angus exhibitor at this Angus feature show was Raff Beef Cattle from Drillham, Qld, making a spectacular return to the show ring after a break of 20 years. David Raff and his son Andrew will be taking cattle to the Sydney and Brisbane Royals this year as well as to the Adelaide Royal Angus feature show. The Raffs exhibited a heifer, the result of an imported embryo, to take out the junior and grand championships and best Angus exhibit award.
Judge was Tom Baker, Woonalee, Millicent, SA, the Simmental federal president, who said he was looking for sound, easy doing cattle that were ‘not too big’
